I AM AN APATANI WOMAN

Apatani women are famous for their beauty and simplicity. They are strong and defiant women living in villages in the Eastern Himalaya. They learned from their ancestors how to live in harmony with nature, and are know for their unique methods of sustainable farming without the use of machinery or animals.

They are part of a disappearing tribe with no written record of their history. For decades, the Apatani women have been subject to discrimination because of their appearance and their choice of beauty.
